David Valls store, Barcelona

The demands of modern society mean that the spaces in which life takes place must be comfortable and in line with the unstoppable technology that now reaches all sectors of life. This also involves shops and horeca premises, formed by hotels, restaurants, cafés, and other areas dealing in hospitality.

Although it is true that what is important lies inside the stores -in their products and services- it is also essential to look after the outside of retail premises. Accesses are the first step and the entrance must be well cared for and comfortable for access by habitual customers and those who might become ambassadors of the brand.

The David Valls store in Barcelona decided to install an automatic sliding entrance door that is fixed leaf side opening, with cast iron door leaves. This emblematic project by Manusa in the Born district -one of the most important zones of the Catalan city- provided added value in comparison with other establishments that have manual doors.

The customers of David Valls are given a positive experience when they enter the store, as the door opens as they enter, giving them a great welcome and helping at the exit because they do not have to use their hands to open the door, hands that are often carrying shopping bags. Energy efficiency is also better than in other spaces, as the change in temperature due to a badly closed door is avoided.

This is a wide variety of accesses, but automatic sliding doors and sectional doors are the most common in this type of store. Thanks to their design and drive units, Manusa products are a guarantee of durability and professionalism.

Manusa launches its Instagram profile

Many companies choose to generate engagement and branding on one of the social networks with highest growth over recent years: Instagram.

Belonging to Facebook, the platform has replaced Twitter in many countries, and Generation Z uses the Instagram direct messaging system in the same way that Millennials use WhatsApp.

In order to expand the vision, mission and values of the company, Manusa has launched its Instagram account. This has enabled it to integrate the digital strategy already developed in other spaces, such as LinkedIn, Youtube or Twitter, into this new channel.

The posts might have contents on sustainability and accessibility, including the circular economy or energy efficiency; coverage of events and trade fairs in which company professionals take part; or the presentation of emblematic projects and the international expansion of automatic doors designed and manufactured by the company.

Furthermore, hand in hand with the human resource department, this new communications channel will help develop the company’s employer branding strategy. Current employees will be identified and new talent will be sought. Brand humanisation is one of the mainstays of transparency.

What is more, there will be a new on-line chat space for audiences such as architects, designers, and suppliers of Manusa and Ferroflex.

Through its launch on Instagram, the company continues in its unstoppable job of opening to the future.

Why does applying BIM improve the sustainability of architectural projects?

Technology has enabled many of the processes developed in architecture to become more efficient and less expensive. Thanks to BIM methodology, architectural projects have reached previously unknown levels of perfection.

When talking of BIM (Building Information Modelling), its meaning can be explained as a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of an installation. It is a knowledge resource that is shared to obtain information that helps make decisions during the entire duration of the installation, from its design on a computer screen thanks to software to the decision to demolish it.

This methodology includes data and information on the design of the building or structure, and its complex engineering. With this, it is possible to make changes to a project, as BIM is processable and accessible. This also makes it sustainable, as it helps all players in the project when choosing whether a piece of architecture should be, for example, more energy efficient and very environment friendly.

Sustainable and environment-friendly BIM

Reducing environmental impact is one of the raisons d’être of an increasing number of companies and people. This includes the materials used in the construction of buildings and the different products integrated into them. For example, automatic doors increase energy efficiency, as they prevent a door from being left open by mistake, changing the temperature inside a room and leading to an unnecessary waste of energy.

Furthermore, it is positive for all companies because it involves corporate social responsibility. Companies must strive to implement their architectural projects using BIM methodology and applying sustainable processes. The environment and future generations will thank them for it.

Sunway Pyramid, Malaysia

In our society, the number of automated spaces is constantly increasing. Thanks to communication and information technologies, any person can automate processes from their computer or mobile phone. These automation processes have also reached the retail sector.

Brands and companies want to be at the forefront of innovation in retail areas. This is evidenced by big LED screens, different lighting in different areas, or payment processes that make the customer the focal point.

All these improvements can also manifest in the accesses to commercial buildings or shops. Although they might go unnoticed as they are already found in many places, automatic accesses are an essential element in any retail space.

A good example of this is Sunway Pyramid, a large shopping centre located in Petaling Jaya, a city on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At these large facilities devoted to shopping and entertainment, Manusa installed 89 automatic doors hand in hand with the supplier Bansho Sdn Bhd.

This allowed customers and employees to enjoy greater ease of transit at entrances, exits and common areas; the building is also more energy efficient, as the temperature of the building is optimally controlled.

Since it first opened in 1997, this large shopping centre has undergone major changes. There, we can find restaurants, banks, hair salons, beauty salons, toy shops or jewellery stores. The main entrance to the building is guarded by a large sphinx and a huge pyramid, inspired by Egyptian architecture. All this confers an air of grandeur to this fabulous leisure space.

Offices and energy efficiency. What can automatic doors provide?

Caring for the environment has become the flagship for thousands of companies worldwide, as well as associations, groups, governments, and private individuals. It is currently rather difficult to be fully sustainable at home, as our dwellings are perhaps old and it would be expensive to completely adapt them to ensure energy efficiency or because bureaucracy does not always make sustainability easy.

This is easier in office buildings. One of the tasks of the corporate social responsibility department is to ensure its company is energy-efficient. How is this achieved? Different action can be taken to achieve this. Today we’re going to talk about the importance of automatic doors in terms of sustainability.

Efficient doors thanks to automation

There is a wide variety of possibilities available when an architect designs an office building. Manual doors might be chosen that must be pushed by people to enter or exit the building or the rooms inside it, or the decision might be made to implement a project that includes automatic-type accesses to allow people to move around the office complex more easily.

The most standard are the automatic sliding doors. These are often seen in dozens of places, including airports, banks, shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, and hospitals, etc. They guarantee full energy efficiency in relation to the stability, for example, of the temperature in the building. A manual door might be left open by mistake, and this will be reflected in the energy bill due to the unnecessary squandering of heating or air conditioning.

Another types of product, such as telescopic sliding doors or curved or semicircular doors, also ensure our offices help care for the environment. We all have to do our bit to leave our children a better, more sustainable world.

Hilti Store, Palma de Mallorca

Since the appearance of large shopping malls and hypermarkets in society in the late 20th century and early 21st century, thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises around the world have seen their business threatened. Many had to close and others had to reinvent themselves so as not to lose customers or profits at the end of the month.

At present, the unstoppable growth in e-commerce must be added to this, which has meant that anyone can buy any product on their mobile phone or computer.

One of the companies that has been able to maintain its presence in both digital and physical format is Hilti. A company specialising in the sale of professional tools for construction, which is present on the Spanish mainland and in the Balearic Islands.

For its physical store in Palma de Mallorca, it used Manusa to install the automatic entrance door. It consists of two bi-parting doors with two fixed leaves, and both the moving and fixed leaves are transparent.

The sliding central leaves have a single aluminium profile that is fixed at the top of the glass to give total transparency. The operator is built in and hidden in the design of the main access to the store.

This means that customers can enter and exit the establishment without having to move the door with their hands. This is extremely favourable when shopping and your hands are full of the products bought.

Companies in the retail sector are destined to install this type of product in their physical spaces. Customers seek greater convenience when shopping and this type of detail marks the difference.

Lead-lined automatic doors for X-ray rooms

One of the sectors to have most implemented automatic door systems in its facilities and buildings is the health sector. Clinics, health centres and hospitals have an increasing number of automatic access for the convenience of patients and their relatives.

To avoid the negative connotations of visiting healthcare facilities, these health areas are pleasantly decorated to make reception and waiting rooms more reminiscent of a hotel. This seeks to make the patient’s stay as least traumatic as possible.

As well as the accesses connecting the street and the building, there are health areas that, given their characteristics, must have high safety conditions, such as the rooms used for X-rays.

Manusa designs, produces and installs lead-lined doors for X-ray rooms. The high quality of the materials and of the professionals who create this type of product guarantee complete insulation. To do so, extensive knowledge in engineering is combined with the design of the door.

Personalisation is also applicable to this model and, for example, the door can be hermetic or not, side opening or bi-parting, with a viewing panel with a camera or with lead-lined glass. All of this respecting the utmost conditions of safety and hygiene at all times. With regard to this last point, the possibility of installing a connection with the fire alarm must also be noted.

Photocells can also be installed for greater safety, remote control program switches, touchless switches, elbow push buttons

There is complete insulation as the leaf has two lead-lined layers each measuring one millimetre in thickness, which overlap with the lead insertions in the walls of the X-ray room. This ensures the utmost safety of the radiologists and doctors, as their every-day work means that they are constantly exposed to harmful radiation.

Ekke Gym, Lleida

People’s desire to improve their physical appearance through sport has increased over recent years. This is why a lot of gyms have sprung up in many cities, helping exercise the body and get into shape to tackle every-day physical wear and tear.

Most buildings, whether they be offices, restaurants, hospitals or hotels, already have accesses that open and close automatically. This improves energy efficiency, as the heating temperature in winter and the air conditioning in summer is preserved better.

Sports areas are also working adapting their facilities, part of which includes automatic doors. Manusa installed several of its products at the Ekke Gym in Lleida.

The main entrance consists of a bi-parting sliding door with two fixed leaves and a panic break-out system. Given that the leaves have no vertical stiles, the space was used to install large vinyl adhesives on the four leaves to make up the name of the gym: EKKE. This helps customers and visitors find the gym easily. It is a good marketing stunt to remember the brand image.

For the restaurant, side opening telescopic doors were installed, which also included vinyl adhesives with floral details, in line with the decoration and atmosphere of the restaurant.

These accesses allow people, most of whom are carrying a sports bag and have their hands full, to move around more easily. The motion switch will open the access and customers to the gym in Lleida can come and go as they please.

Swing panels in hotels, restaurants and cafés

Whenever you enter a building conducting activities in the tertiary sector you want it to be a pleasant setting. The light or the colours are elements of neuromarketing that make people feel as comfortable as possible and want to come back in the future.

The Horeca sector includes hotels, restaurants and cafés. The extensive spread of these places in large cities means that companies must work with the latest technology to ensure the highest number of satisfied customers possible.

Along these lines, attention must also be paid to the entries and exits of the site. Whether they be automatic doors leading from the outside of the building or the premises, or doors that separate the different rooms and interior spaces. In this case, swing doors are fantastic.

This type of access control system is designed to allow people with mobility problems through. They have an attractive design, and are silent, very safe, and an access solution adaptable to any environment.

Their panel is available in various widths and is versatile, as it can be made of glass or have a tubular profile with a Perspex pictogram with informative designs.

Thanks to this Manusa product, which blends functionality with elegance, the combination with other devices in any space or architectural project is guaranteed. For example, with corridors with either swing panels or turnstiles, which provide the installation with access adapted to people with special needs. The motorised movement of the panel with fitted unlock motor allows for evacuation in the event of an emergency.

The swing panels provide an accessible, flexible and comfortable passing space. And thanks to its structural stainless steel finish and the possibility of integrating different validation systems, it is able to mark the difference and provide added value to the space where it is installed.

But not only can they be seen in Horeca sector establishments. This product allows for free-flowing foot traffic and, thanks to Manusa, can be installed in airports, shopping malls, public transport, office buildings or industrial units.
